ACME – Atlanta Car Model Enthusiasts is one of the Southeast’s best-known model car clubs, bringing together builders who share a passion for automobiles and virtually anything with wheels. With roots reaching back to the 1980s, ACME has grown into a club of more than 100 members while maintaining a simple mission: promote plastic scale modeling through teaching, encouragement, friendship, and fellowship among builders of every skill level. Club members build an incredible variety of automotive subjects, including factory-stock automobiles, classics, muscle cars, street rods, customs, drag racers, road-racing cars, NASCAR subjects, trucks, motorcycles, and wheeled military vehicles, along with members whose interests extend into other areas of scale modeling. If it has wheels, chances are somebody in ACME builds it! ACME is perhaps best known throughout the hobby as the host of the Southern Nationals NNL, a long-running model car gathering held each fall and now located at the Clarence Brown Conference Center in Cartersville, Georgia. Held annually since 1996, the Southern Nationals has grown into one of the country’s premier automotive modeling events, attracting builders and vendors from across the United States. Unlike a traditional class-by-class model contest, the Southern Nationals follows the NNL philosophy, emphasizing the models, builders, inspiration, and fellowship of the hobby while still recognizing exceptional work through special awards such as Best in Show, Top Ten, and event-theme awards. ACME also works to introduce the next generation to model building through Make-It-Take-It activities for children, including outreach with Cartersville’s Savoy Automobile Museum, where club members help young builders experience the fun of assembling a model car of their own. Whether you are passionate about meticulously detailed factory replicas, wild customs, competition machines, weathered workhorses, or simply anything with four wheels and an engine, Atlanta Car Model Enthusiasts represents the creativity, craftsmanship, and camaraderie of automotive scale modeling—and the Southern Nationals NNL has become their annual invitation for car modelers from across the country to come to Georgia, put their latest builds on the tables, reconnect with old friends, make new ones, and celebrate the hobby together.
